Principal Responsibilities
1. Performs assignments under limited supervision.
2. Trains, reviews and directs the work of employees under the direction of the supervisor.
3. Provides training and review of L35 Mason Assistants, Masons of all Labor Grades and Laborers.
4. Under the direction of the supervisor, assumes general responsibilities for the training program, implements and provides recommendations regarding classroom and practical application testing.
5. Under the direction of the supervisor, assumes general responsibility for the completion of assignments.
6. Determines the manpower and material requirements and the means and methods to be used in accomplishing work assignments and following prints, plans and drawings and recommends changes.
7. Secures materials, supplies and equipment.
8. Fabricates, alters, repairs, and maintains, plaster, points, grout tiles, brick, block, stone, expansion joints, caulked joints and all related surfaces and structures.
9. Performs general concrete work, mixes and matches mortars and plaster including fabrication and installation of form work.
10. Provides training and review of L35 Masons, Mason Assistants of all Labor Grades and Laborers.
11. Uses concrete hammers, power abrasive saws, drills or all related tools. Operates additional equipment such as forklift, portable mixer, Lull type fork lift and all related equipment.
12. Sets up scaffold as required in compliance with all safety guidelines.
13. Maintains clean work area and/or cleans job site.
14. Directs and trains lower labor grade employees, and sometimes equal labor grade.
15. Observes all safety standards and practices.
16. Performs related duties as required or assigned within job classification
17. May perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
1. High School diploma or equivalent.
2. Journeyman Level Mason with ten (10) or more years of masonry trade experience.
Required License(s) or Certification(s)
1. Must possess Driver’s license valid in the State of Connecticut.
2. Must hold a valid Connecticut OSHA 10 certificate.
Physical Requirements
1. This is a maintenance position requiring physical exertion. Ability to regularly move, assemble, lifts and carries equipment, tools and materials of up to 70 lbs. without assistance. This includes lifting from floor to table height and from table height to floor without assistance and within the normal capacity of the job.
2. Ability to climb a ladder and/or scaffolding as dictated by job requirements and safety standards.
3. Ability to climb and descend stairs, stoop, bend, and/or squat.
4. Ability to work in confined areas.
5. Frequent stooping, bending, sustained work while kneeling and/or squatting.
6. Works inside and outside in all types of weather and temperatures.
7. Moves both arms and shoulders in full and extended motion while working with heavy tools, equipment and materials.
8. Ability to perform sustained work while bending over and repeatedly lifting materials.
9. Drives to assigned work areas.
10. Sustained overhead work.
11. Performs work in dusty and dirty environments.
