Under the supervision of the Carpenter Shop Foreman, the selected candidate will perform journey level work in the masonry trade. Participate in all interior/exterior carpentry work performed on campus as needed. This position has a high focus on all aspects of masonry and will also assist with roofing and carpentry work as needed. Works with other members of the carpenter shop to complete tasks from start to finish with a high level of quality and workmanship.
This position is deemed "essential" and must remain or report to work during partial or full day closings of the University due to hazardous road conditions, emergency circumstances or for other reasons. The ability to work overtime when needed is also required.
Responsibilities Include:
Lay bricks, blocks, and stones according to specified patterns and designs.
Inspect and repair existing brick structures for damage or deterioration.
Plan and lay out work from blueprints, drawings, models or verbal instructions.
Utilize a variety of carpentry and masonry hand tools, portable and stationary power tools, and leveling and measuring instruments.
Construct forms, mix and pour concrete, and apply different finishes in accordance to all building standards and codes.
Repair and maintain existing masonry structures, including walls, floors, and chimneys.
Perform minor masonry work on buildings i.e. pointing, stone/block/stucco repair.
Ability to estimate, install drywall, finish trowel or skim coat walls.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Four years of experience in building and plant maintenance work, which has involved at least two of the buildings, electrical, or mechanical trades;
OR
Two years of experience as a Maintenance Repairman 1;
OR
Any equivalent combination of experience and training that affords the applicant with the Required Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities
Valid Driver License
KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and practices used in at least two of the buildings, electrical, or mechanical trades.
Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trades involved.
Ability to care for and use the tools and equipment utilized in the trades involved.
Ability to detect defects in equipment and to make proper repairs or adjustments.
Ability to lead a small group of semi-skilled workers.
Ability to interpret and work from pencil sketches and diagrams.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to operate and/or utilize basic lawn care and snow removal equipment.
Ability to lift and move heavy objects and to work under adverse weather conditions.
Able to lift 80lbs.
Ability to work from heights, ladders and scaffolding. Able to operate and work from a scissor or man lift and the bucket lift truck.
