Maret School is seeking a skilled carpenter to support its Facilities Department. Key duties will include painting, wall patching, carpet repair, lock repair, masonry, and light HVAC duties across campus. The selected applicant will also provide support with event setup/breakdown, snow removal, and emergency repairs.
Essential Duties
Utilize school-owned or rented equipment to complete carpentry projects (for example, include installation of doors, windows, cabinetry, countertops, partitions, bookcases, and marker boards)
Assess and repair roofing and floors, including wood and tile
Complete routine painting and touch-ups as assigned
Install acoustical ceilings, weather-stripping and caulking, and floor tiles
Pour concrete and lay cement blocks
Install and repair panic hardware and door closures
Repair or replace various wall accessories and restroom dispensers
Other Duties
Assist other trades with completing projects
Interpret work orders, drawings, and plan tasks in a proper sequence
Set up and operate all woodworking machinery and hand tools in a safe manner
Assist with daily carline and perform other traffic control as needed
Respond to occasional emergency situations (fire alarms, weather alerts, power outage etc.) promptly and take actions to safeguard occupants, mitigate damage, and restore operations
Maintain, along with other members of the team, a clean and safe maintenance shop, mechanical plant, and mechanical rooms
Perform work orders and other duties as assigned
Desired Experience and Expertise
High school diploma or GED
Trade school or specialized training preferred
Valid driver’s license
Willingness to learn and perform a wide variety of tasks
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Experience working in a school environment and/or with children
Familiarity with technology systems (Microsoft Office Suite, Asset Essentials ticketing system)
Requirements
Capable of bending, stretching, reaching, lifting, and/or standing for extended periods and able to carry, lift, or drag heavy items (up to 50 pounds)
Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to hear voices, alarms, bells, and horns
Willingness to work overtime as needed
Skills
Proficiency with all types of carpentry tools, including but not limited to saws, drills, hammers, screwdrivers, planers, and sanders
Consistent attention to detail
Ability to read and understand construction plans and blueprints
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively within a team
Commitment to professional development of self and others
Strong organization and time-management
Ability to analyze situations accurately and adopt an appropriate and effective course of action
